Who do we serve?

Proactive Development provides a specialist behavioural service to adults with learning disabilities and complex needs.

Our homes are structured in a way that enables staff to provide appropriate, person centred care and support to people with virtually any degree of learning disability:

  • 5 Ashley Avenue is home to 3 people with a severe learning disability and benefits from higher staffing levels, a focus on alternative forms of communication and a classically behavioural approach
  • 31 St Johns Church Road is home to 3 people with a mild to moderate learning disability where a cognitive approach is generally found to be more useful.

We have experience of working successfully with a wide range of learning disability related conditions including:

  • Autistic Spectrum Disorders (including Asperger’s Syndrome)
  • ADD and ADHD
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Down’s Syndrome
  • OCD
  • Prader-Willi Syndrome
  • Tourette’s Syndrome

We are also able to work with all but the most severe behavioural challenges and have extensive experience of successfully addressing:

  • Aggression
  • Destruction to property
  • Self-injury
  • Self-harm
  • Sexual and physical abuse
  • Depression and anxiety
  • Social risk
  • Attention seeking/demand avoidance

In addition, we are able to support people with complex health needs, such as epilepsy, diabetes and mental health disorders, where an appropriate consultant is in place.

Finally, in rare instances, we can support young adults from the age of 16.
