For those of our service users who outgrow our residential homes, either through changes in their behaviour, improvements in their abilities and independence or a combination of the two, we are pleased to provide our Supported Living Project as a move-on option.
However, we are of the firm belief that a move from residential care to supported living should equate to an improvement in quality of life, not a reduction. Accommodation should be of the same high standard as our residential homes and be located in safe neighbourhoods. It should be well maintained, economical to run, represent exceptional value for money and provide tenants with a safe and comfortable home. With these points in mind, we have our own housing provision section that oversees the quality of housing provided, in addition to our domiciliary care section. We deliver informed care and support at a level based upon the experience of each person/individual in our care homes. In this way, staffing levels are sufficient. Service users also have access to good communication tools including intercoms and the internet.
Project workers develop individual packages of support based on principles of person-centred planning. A Contract of Participation aims to ensure that useful routines and activities developed, whilst in residential care, are sustained in the community, whilst staff promote a process of continuing learning that ensures rapid improvements in autonomy and independence. Finally, the long-term cost savings for local authorities cannot be underestimated.
