Comfortable, spacious homes

At Proactive Development, we run homes that are spacious, safe, well maintained and located in safe neighbourhoods. We provide people with ordinary living in a beautiful, home-like environment.

Small groups, well trained staff

Housemates living together in small groups of no more than 3, sharing their home with people who have similar:

  • Disabilities
  • Needs
  • Ages
  • Interests

Staff groups that are:

  • Well trained
  • Well managed, supervised and supported
  • Properly remunerated for their hard work
Proactive Development

All staff undergo a programme of continuous, professional development that includes training in the non-aversive, safe management of challenging behaviour. Our senior staff are trained in the assessment and analysis of severe and challenging behaviour.

Our managers typically have a caseload of no more than 6 people. They hold supernumerary positions and have sufficient time to support their staff.

We do not use agency staff. We have our own flexi-bank of staff who understand our ethos, know the people who live in our homes and have undergone the same training as our permanent team.

Serious about committed, well-trained staff

Staffing levels that are:

  • Adequate to meet the needs of housemates

People should not have to compete for staff attention. We staff our homes on a minimum 2:3 ratio though this is often much higher.

Person centred care plans that are based upon people’s needs and aspirations and that provide them with regular opportunities to:

  • Engage in a rewarding, fulfilling occupation
  • Continue their formal education
  • Learn new, useful skills, attitudes and behaviours
  • Access their communities and form friendships and relationships
  • Improve communication and personal effectiveness
  • Understand and grow into their roles as citizens with rights and responsibilities
  • Take part in exciting and challenging activities via the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme and the Youth Achievement Awards
  • Become fit and healthy and look their best
  • Be more independent
  • Have fun!
